So many thoughts went through my head reading this
But I think the biggest one is I really enjoyed a story that took place in space that didn't have either an American-centric perspective.
I also really love how you brought the character's faith into it - I feel like it's easy to think that people will just become secular as they journey out into the void of space, but I doubt that. I'm no religious scholar, but I think that's a discussion worth having.
There's a lot of really fascinating things to discuss in this piece honestly. I'll be thinking about this for a while!
Thank you! And thank you for your very insightful comment!
I deliberately invented a geopolitical setting where there's a new world power that is neither the US, China or Russia. Scandinavia was a superpower once upon a time (i.e. Viking times!) and my home area was once controlled by Norway, so I thought it would be fun to make it kinda "Vikings in space" (though without the Vikings being horned-helmeted rampaging pillagers; instead, they're running mining conglomerates, which one might argue could be another kind of pillaging...)
I also totally agree that the development of science, venturing further into the cosmos, etc, does not necessarily make people more secular (though it has allowed secularity as an option in society, as argued by the philosopher Charles Taylor). I know plenty people of faith (of various faiths) working in the sciences, and that is also something I wanted to reflect a little bit.
This was so beautiful! The story was incredible, but I especially loved the way you wove folklore, ancient customs, and history together. It was very moving!
Great story!

Did not see that coming. Loved where it went though. I felt the tension!
Thanks you!
